Black Clay from Nicaragua

This is what I got, awkwardly and then with smug shyness as he hugged me back.

This is what my son got for us, with a mere $15 he had in his pocket on his trip to Nicaragua.IMG_3487

The earrings are made of natural black clay, he adds. Two days after he returns and then in his usual nonchalant manner has forgotten that this lay in his backpack.

I hug him tight, overwhelmed and happy with his gesture.

My boy was growing up. He always cared for his sisters, in ways that I wouldn’t think of. To see him think of us and me and bring us back a token of his solo trip out of the country without us, was a sign of the future. When he would go out into the world and experience things and people uniquely his own. To bring back a token of his experience and to remember us while he lives in his moment.

That’s how men are, aren’t they?

Not expressive as a rule, only to break with select ladies in their life, to extend a token on affection as they beam their love, wordlessly.

..and then one day the tokens will stop. All good things do stop, they evolve and they slow down and then they shift and there really isn’t anything one can do, but watch, and hold onto the memories and hope that they are strong enough to last through time.

Like the black clay earrings from Nicaragua.

The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself, with desire for what its monstrous laws have made monstrous and unlawful.

– Oscar Wilde in The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Makes sense to me, and apparently Mark Twain feels the same way.

It applies to the cravings we have in our lives. Moderate everything and everything will be in moderation.

I am wondering if this is passe though. Does it still apply to this day and age? I’d imagine so, but I could be wrong.

visual dna v2

The last time I took this lovely fun test which comes dangerously close to truth was back in 2008. Now, after two years and much aging later, my visual dna says that am an easy rider. I think I was then too. I know I chose the same imagery for vacation, music, what I’d rather be doing right now, drink, relaxation.

Am surprised that essentially, things have remained the same, despite me being the huge advocate for “being the same” is boring! So much for hypocrisy!

Ok, some technical issues again, (this week has been crappy wrt all the ridiculous problems I’ve been facing technically!) and I can’t get that code to work, so am just gonna go mac crazy and take screen shots and paste it here. There’s always Plan S in my case :-)*S for screen shots. Gee, if am beginning to explain myself, I must be getting lame!

So here you go, and yeah, go for it. It’s quite uncanny and well, major time pass :-)

So yes, it’s awesome to play around too, giving random answers and watching how your personality is tweaked around. See, nothing’s foolproof ;-)

..and Oh, if you are reading this via feed, would you kindly step into my blog and vote on that little poll I have on the sidebar. If you don’t care, then that’s fine too. Bah.
