nee oru kaadhal (Tamil)

It’s a quiet Friday night, and as I sit at the desk and tap these words while hearing this song on repeat, a myriad emotions sweep through me. Ones that are nascent, tucking their necks around surprising me, and then the ones that have been forgotten. I look at each one, examine them and place them aside before moving onto the next. Exactly, like I must have examined seashells back on the beach as a little girl. Collecting them all, stuffing them into a pocket, to come home, clean them under water. Dry them with a soft cotton towel, and then bundle them into a sack, and place it in a secure place. A place so secure that I’d forget it exists, till they stumble out without any rhyme or reason, and bring with them more intensity than one can handle.

Does music do that to you too? It does to me.

I share with you today what I find a lovely melody, a favorite for no reason, apart from just being a tune that can hold its own.

My fav spots –

  • 0.55 – 1.04: It’s just tremendously sweet. There’s tenderness and care, and you can’t help smile. To share a moment such as that is a gift indeed.
  • 2.18 – 2.24: Never mind the setting of the scene and story, the expression those frames convey is precious.

Enjoy IR, Mano, Chitra, Kamalhassan, Saranya and Mani Ratnam. In that order.

  1. mlc: Yeah, that’s what I thought. :)

Praveen: He did na? I like his work :)

    Jira: :-)

Kavi: Tunes are such easy time machines. :)

Krishna: Yeah, he does. His expressions are unique, and very tangible. :)

Adithya: lol, maybe, maybe not :)

Niyaz: Really? Awesome, nice knowing you listen to tamil too! :)

  2. Oh gosh No Niyaz, I did. I guess I didn’t dig through the archives. It was quite techy, and am so not techy! Sorryyyy :\

I have you on my reader now :)

  3. Music definitely has that effect on me. In particular, ‘vaa vaa anbe anbe’ from agninakshatram. I have no clue why. In closer memories, comfortably numb and wish you were here hit more spots. *sigh*

  4. KK: Yeah, I guess. He does have a gruff edge to his voice, the kind that breaks when filled with emotion. Satya’s song is another lovely tune. :)

Dinesh: Yep! ’87 I believe, I still was in school. 80’s did have some awesome music. You IR fan too? :)

Shmetterling: That song “va va” is one heck of a hot romantic number :)

  5. Again!! More than a tad bit late! :-/
Well, I don’t understand the language but, yea, the song is indeed beautiful. I think it’s Hamsadhwani ragam! A blissful ragam, Hamsadhwani. Ilayaraja is a genius. He’s my idol! He’s varnished gems like ARR! He’s made many memorable Telugu melodies as well – Sirivennela is one masterpiece!

  6. KK: yea, sorta. A telugu raised in Madras. I can camp either way. :)

Stitha: Still, you made it. Yay! :)
This website says it is “shyamKalyan” – tho Hamsadhwani is a fine raga by itself. Mahanadi’s SriRangaRanga is beautiful. Am a sucker for such songs :)

    Sirivennela is KV Mahadevan’s right?

  7. Yea! You’re right! I’m sorry, I got it wrong. Sirivennela is K. V. Mahadevan. Swatimutyam was Ilaiyaraja. Looks like I also got the ragam wrong! Sorry again. But it does sound like Hamsadhwani in certain sangatis.

  8. bpsk: i knoww! ..and by that we have declared our respective ages to the kids who haunt this place. Bah@you for spoiling it all :p

    stitha: yea, I know.

    kk: I did :)

  9. rads – baingara late comment… but in case you even notice this, please reply maadi. :)

why have you classified this song under “bollywood” ? just curious… :-)

and of course this and ‘vaa vaa’ one of my top favs too!

  10. Zep: Comments come to my inbox, so am good :)
Bollywood coz I originally was just doing hindi movies, then couln’t change the tag, now realize I could, so did. Ive cribbed before that I couldn’t rename my tag, thanks to you, found out it’s quite easy editing, so now more of my tags would get renamed! :))

    It’s Cinema now :)

I'd love to hear what you have to say, do write back!
