what a morning?!

Reasons for the title, not in any particular order –

1. Woke up at 7.45am
2. burnt a pot of pasta, and had to make sandwiches for lunch.
3. Got a papercut while signing a field trip form, and in that annoyance dated the check to 09/30.
4. discovered that I had absolutely no casuals to wear, press a kurti, only to realize that it has shrunk to 2 sizes smaller and not in a pleasant way.
5. the lil one dumps a whole glass of OJ on her AFTER she is dressed for the day
6. daughter turns house upside down for a pair of sunglasses that we don’t own.
7. daughter is upset and insists on going off by bus, as she can at least be a ‘patrol’ if not ‘stylish’ [her words, not mine], so the son needs to be dropped off at kiss n ride [that’s an extra 10 minute detour]
8. son wears a damp short orange shirt with a shiny blue basketball shorts [yea, he creates fashion statements at home] so had to be sent back again to change.
9. lil one insists on lawnmoving [it’s one of those toy buble lawnmovers! am not an idiot u know] when I ask her to get in the van.
10. realize my white heels are in the car that the husband has conveniently driven away. so am forced to wear green flip flops with a baby pink kurti that magically is my saving grace of my wardrobe. [yea, am a spectacle today]
11. drive up to work, and realize the damned parking lot is very full. Squeezed [if u can call it that] the Odyssey between a corvette and a lexus, and prayed I didn’t scratch either.
12. came up and realized i left the office badge inside my desk last evening, coaxed someone to let me in.
13. dumped some coffee on me. have a stain that’s mocking me everytime I look down.

  1. Thanks for visiting my blog.

The mail is very touchy And even though you had a tough morning I couldn’t help smiling while reading:-) I have 2 kids too and I could imagine them doing what you wrote about them including ur burnt pasta pot:-) Wishing you a great weekend.

  2. deepa – grr, have fun :)

TD – Thanks. Weekend looks promising up until now. :)

Mommy – sure, my curiosity made me visit. There’s a lot of relief when someone else is also in the same boat ;-)
    Have a good one too.

  3. hope the weekend is less..hectic..lol..

about the poem.. after every party its a PISSOFF to find tht the sober ones cant drive and the ones drving are under the influence of alcohol… though they claim they are not drunk jus ‘high’ or ‘happy'(their words not mine)

  4. Two posts merged into one, actually. While the poem is very moving and beutifully constructed, I thank God that I read about your day on a weekend!

  5. metlin – you have a crystal ball or something? :)

archana – Ironical eh? Wasted kids are the only ones who can drive?

JC – Yeah it is actually, I just didn’t want it to come on heavy on a Friday evening :)

Anusha – no no, no supermom – once youre in, you have to cope, no choice right? :)

Inder – yea, no multitasking under the influence.
Thanks for dropping by newbies. :)

  6. I was sweating even as i was reading your account of the morning – that is when it sank in that I was so lucky that my son is all grown up. Being mom of teens and pre teens isa tough job but you seem to be handling it so well.
And the mail, so moving.Made me angry too thinking of all those drunken drivers who care nothing about their own lives and the lives of others on the road.

  7. usha – oh no, mine are just 11, and 10, preteens, not yet teens [thank god!] – my daughter had this thing at school where everyone was asked to be tap their creative side and add just 1 element to be “hip”. They have days like such occasionally.

  8. Can understand how little things pile up and it looks like everything is happening just to make you miserable—but you turned it into a hilarious post! And that poem was really scary—It should be sent to all “indulgent parents” who don’t bother to drill such things into their kids’ heads.

I'd love to hear what you have to say, do write back!
